To find out more, you'll have to do some research and learn that it was founded as a "bastide" in 1250 by Alphonse de Poitiers, Count of Toulouse; that it was ruined on 3 June 1573 by the King's armies for practising the Protestant religion; that it prospered again, reaching a population of over a thousand in the 19th century, but that phylloxera, followed by the 14/18 war and finally the industrialisation of the 20th century led to a slow decline. Inexorable? Not so sure!

Its assets are proudly reflected in its name: Viridifolio, Vertfoil, then Verfeil. For almost eight centuries, it has been telling everyone what it is. A place where the green of the woods blends with that of the meadows, where the topography has become an architect of remarkable landscapes, a place where the seasons exist, where the nights are still dark and the stars bright, where silence is disturbed only by the sounds of nature. A beautiful sleep? No doubt not!

More than ten associations offer everyone the chance to take part in the activity they want. In summer: parties, concerts, festivals and various cultural activities. In season: hunting and fishing, football or tennis and, throughout the year, learning English, singing, culture or entertainment in the library, eating well, character gîtes to accommodate visiting friends.

It's the perfect place to settle down and live permanently. The town centre offers a large number of houses for renovation. Caussade and Villefranche de Rouergue are half an hour's drive away, Albi, Montauban and Cahors just over an hour and Toulouse an hour and a half. The school is three kilometres away, the collège 15 and the lycée 30, so the time taken to reach them is the same as in a large town.
